17.15 – Mares’ Standard Open NH Flat Race – Grade 2 – 2m 209y
Like I said above I will be covering 4 of these races for my free Yankee tip and I will begin with the Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Novices’ Hurdle which is a Grade 1 over 2 miles.
Doom Bar Anniversary 4-Y-O Juvenile Novices’ Hurdle 2.20
The 2.20 race offers a lot of competition but my pick will be Tritonic, been going through the grades this year after a Grade 3 win followed by a Grade 2 win shortly after, bit unlucky possibly poorly placed, and badly outpaced at Cheltenham in March.
Update: 8th April – Monmiral is my new pic as Tritonic is a non runner
I feel he can give a better account at the Aintree course but he will have to beat the likes of Monmiral and Adagio, the former which has an unblemished record so far having won all of its first 4 starts including a Grade 2 hurdle.
Adagio for me has the best-proven Grade 1 form though and I think it will be between these 3 in the market and on the course this Thursday.
Aintree Betway Bowl 2.50
Another fascinating contest with the like of Tiger Roll declared for this one as well as Clan Des Obeaux, I am gonig against the grain here with Native River.
Native River comes here with solid staying form in both Grade 2 and Grade 1 contests, always there or thereabouts in its races and has the potential to get the beating of Tiger Roll, and Clan Des Obeaux if things fall right in the race for him.
Rose Paterson Randox Foxhunters’ Open Hunters’ Chase 4.05
I am opting for Bob And Co in this race which is somewhat of a puzzle and could go to literally any of the first 6 or 7 in the market, the main threats to the selection would be Cat Tiger and Billaway, who should lead the market.
Bob And Co was having the time of his life until unseating last time out and could easily resume winning ways with a touch of luck this time.
Update: 8th April – Cat Tiger is my new pic as Bob And Co is a non runner
Close Brothers Red Rum Handicap Chase 4.40
My final selection for the Yankee on day 1 of the Aintree Grand National Festival is Getaway Trump a horse seemingly on the improve and has some decent form in the book in class 2, this represents a slightly more competetive field than usual but I think he has the class to win this at a good price.
Dangers in this race are obviously Destrier and Frereo Banbou who both come into this race with a solid each-way chance.
My Aintree Day 1 Yankee
With all four of those selections considered I am going to put them into a Yankee bet (not sure what that is check out my horse racing betting guide)
2.20 – Monmiral Evens
2.50 – Native River 11/2
4.05 – Cat Tiger 6/1
4.40 – Getaway Trump 9/1
A 50p Yankee on these would cost about £5.50, but the return if they all win is around £976.75.
