Spain will take on Costa Rica in the 16:00 kick-off in Group E on Tuesday in what on paper should be a one-sided affair.
Spain Off To A Flyer?
Spain comes into this having lost just one match in the last year which was against Switzerland and the score was 1-2.
They are a strong side of Spain and take on a Costa Rican side also in good form but lacking in certain areas.
The form of Costa Rica reads a little different from that of Spain, though Costa Rica has been winning games in fact they have only lost 2 themselves and have notably beaten the USA en route to this tournament.
That being said in their last meeting with Spain competitively they lost 5-0 and the teams that Costa Rica are not of the same Calibre as the teams that Spain plays and beats regularly.
Is Costa Rica A Stronger Side This Time?
Costa Rica is currently ranked 31 in the FIFA World rankings though over time their rankings have slowly gone down over the last few years.
Add to this the bookmakers have them rank outsiders at 750/1 to win the tournament and you would be expecting a Spain side who are around 8/1 to win the whole competition to dismantle them pretty easily.
Costa Rica has the potential to surprise but I don’t think it will be happening in this fixture they face a FIFA world-ranked 7 side of Spain.
Costa Rica could potentially lose all of their group games in this World Cup, Morocco could be their best chance at points but I don’t see them getting anything from Spain or Croatia.
Spain Vs Costa Rica Prediction
So taking all things into account I see this as a one-sided affair where Spain can get off to a smooth start and get 3 or 4 goals on the way perhaps.
Costa Rica has their work cut out in their opening fixture and will have to defend resolutely not to concede to this Spanish team who have a bundle of quality this time around.
I can see that Spain could easily win this game 4-0 or more so backing them -2 goal handicap for far better odds is a play in this tie as well as backing over 2.5 goals because if Costa Rica does score early there will be plenty of goals in this game.
I don’t see Costa Rica scoring though this is kind of covered with the over 2.5 goals bet in case the match is closer than anticipated.
All in all, I don’t like to use the term banker, but this is a banker of mine!
