England takes on Iran in their first group match of the competition and the three lions are fancied to do very well in the tournament and to cruise through their group matches at least.
Iran is not as weak of a side as many think with their FIFA world ranking at 20 currently they are certainly a side to be cautious of, to say the least as they may prove tough to break down and still carry a counter threat which England often prove vulnerable to.
England Patchy Coming Into The Tournament
Many people would say England has not been playing great considering the team we have and they would be right as they have failed to win a game in their last 6 in all competitions.
A 4-0 drubbing to the hands of Hungary also showed our weaknesses, that being said there is solace to be taken in the 3-3 draw with Germany, after going down a few goals we showed the character needed to win a World Cup.
Arguably the easiest game of the competition for us is against a top 20 side that could cause us troubles, though we are more than capable of dismantling them early doors if we are on our game.
Iran Could Surprise Us
Iran has some good players with the likes of Mehdi Taremi and Sardar Azmoun up front who both posses plenty of goal-scoring potential.
The Iranian defence is relatively solid and they tend not to concede too many goals, they have also beaten Uruguay recently in a 1-0 close encounter.
Though the bookmakers have an inkling that there may well be no surprises from them as they are marked up at 500/1 it will all depend on this game whether those odds shorten drastically or not.
We don’t think there will be any big surprises in this tournament though there are a few potential games that could throw up unusual results like this one, it just doesn’t feel like it will happen n this fixture though.
England Vs Iran Prediction
Taking the obvious things into account we have to base England’s poor recent run being in games that didn’t actually really mean much, and this now being a fully competitive match we expect to see bigger and better things from each and every player on that pitch Monday.
Harry Kane has enough potential on his own to down the Iranians quickly and he probably will do just that, and this is why he is fancied by us to be the first goalscorer in the game.
Iran could steal a cheeky goal but it’s not that likely they will get enough chances or service to their forwards to succeed on that front so an England clean sheet is expected.
England should win this match and we are backing them to do just that, a good start for their opener possibly bagging 2 or 3 goals so for this purpose the selection for the match is England to win -1 goal handicap so we can get better value from the odds.
