The second day of the Cheltenham Festival is Wednesday the 17th of March and the races for day one are listed below.

I will be covering the biggest races on each day so on day 2 I will be covering the 2.30 Coral Cup, the 3.05 Queen Mother Champion Chase, the 3.40 Cross Country Chase, and the 4.15 Grand Annual.

Cheltenham Day 2 Race Schedule

13:20 – The Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 1) (2m5f)

13:55 – RSA Insurance Novices’ Steeple Chase (Grade 1) (3m)

14:30 – The Coral Cup Hurdle (Grade 3) (2m5f)

15:05 – Betway Queen Mother Champion Steeple Chase (Grade 1) (2m)

15:40 – The Glenfarclas Cross Country Steeple Chase (3m 6f)

16:15 – Johnny Henderson Grand Annual (Grade 3) (2m)

16.50 – The Weatherbys Champion Bumper (A Standard Open NH Flat Race) (Grade 1) (2m)

The Coral Cup

A big field goes in this race and it’s often one of the harder races to pick a winner in but big-priced winners are not uncommon in this.

Dreal Deal comes into this race with a string of wins to his name and most recently won at Punchestown over 2 miles in a Grade 2 so has plenty of chance of coming home in front once more at a price.

Grand Roi could possibly be the favourite on the day and has a solid chance, but as I say this race is notoriously hard to beat, and sometimes the form book goes out the window.

Others to watch out for are Monte Cristo and Benson.

My tipDreal Deal (currently 16/1)

The Queen Mother Champion Chase

This is the feature race for day 2 and Chacun Pour Soi will almost certainly go off as the odds on favourite (already 4/6 at the time of writing) has won 5 from 7 and most notably justifying market confidence at Leopardstown when winning a Grade 1.

Altior however still remains with plenty of ability and the 2-mile specialist could easily surprise the fav here and at much more value, he recently lost to Nuba Negra in the Desert Orchid Chase.

Nuba Negra is also one to watch in this one but I think Altior can reclaim his crown here he won this in 2019 and was ruled out last year through becoming lame.

My tipAltior (currently 7/1)

Be nice to see the old timer win this one he has been lightly raced and possibly saved for this.

The Cross Country Chase

One of the stranger races in the festival especially if you don’t watch much horse racing a blend of stamina and good jumping is required here.

Tiger Roll who has won this race twice before, once in 2018 and then again in 2019 just missed out last year finishing second but was easily beaten by Easyland that day who will rightfully be favourite for this one and a very short one at that.

I do feel it would be folly to rule out Tiger Roll in a race he certainly specialises in and it could come down more to tactics than ability, I see it between the top two in the market but as always there could be a shock on the cards.

My tipTiger Roll (currently 8/1)

Others to watch out for are Might Bite and Urgent De Gragaine.

The Grand Annual

Usually, run on the Friday of the festival it this time has been moved to the Wednesday and a race that Sky Pirate could certainly be up to taking.

Since dropping back to 2 miles he has proved a shock sensation and it may pay to get on him early as his price has already begun to shorten on the back of his two most recent wins under confident-looking rides.

The one to give him most to think about will most likely be Ibleo who looks progressive and already has some good form in the book Venitia Williams horse looks ahead of his mark and a fast run race may play to his strength, he will be looking to put it to Sky Pirate who some times travels strongly but lacks off the bridle.

My tipSky Pirate (currently 6/1)

Others to watch out for are A Wave Of The Sea and Chosen Mate.

My Cheltenham Day 1 Yankee

With all four of those selections considered I am going to put them into a Yankee bet (not sure what that is check out my horse racing betting guide)

14.30 – Dreal Deal  16/1

15.05 – Altior 7/1

15.40 – Tiger Roll 8/1

16.15 – Sky Pirate 6/1

A 50p Yankee on these would cost about £5.50, but the return if they all win is around £6459.
