Argentina takes on Mexico in an all-South American affair on Saturday and this game now looks a lot more open than it did a few days ago, to say the least.
Argentina looked labored against a well-drilled Saudi Arabia side and even Messi couldn’t help them get out of the hole they created for themselves.
Now they must take on a Mexico side who also seemed to struggle a bit against a Poland side that was not at their best.
It’s hard to say really this early but at the moment it does seem that a lot of sides are underperforming.
Argentina To Shake Off The Cobwebs?
A very poor first showing for Argentina who many punters had down as a banker no doubt on day two of the World Cup, losing 2-1 was a complete shock to everyone.
The Saudis certainly showed what they are capable and they will be super high in confidence going into their next fixture no doubt, and with Argentina handing them 3 points the group is now blown wide open.
I do however expect the Argentines to bounce back with a bang when they play Mexico and though Mexico played the better of the two sides when they played against Poland they lacked an edge.
Argentina is ranked a good 10 places ahead of Mexico in the FIFA World Rankings and certainly, has an edge form-wise, it was inevitable that Argentina would lose a game at some point.
I expect a lot more from Argentina this time around they have more potential going forward than Mexico and if they can live up to their hype they can win this one.
It will certainly be a close one though as Mexico defended well and a great save from their keeper from a penalty too.
Argentina Vs Mexico, Mexico Ready For The Challenge?
Mexico has only beaten Argentina once in the last 18 years and that was in 2011 in the Pan American Games, though if Argentina play as badly as they did in the first fixture that won’t matter at all.
I think Mexico will be up for this game and Argentina will have to go for the win and throw some caution to the win in order to get a much-needed 3 points, this will give Mexico opportunities on the Argentina goal.
This leads me to think that the smart play for this fixture is a both teams to score scenario, and though Argentina was poor in their first fixture, I don’t think lightning will strike twice.
Argentina should edge this possibly in a 2-1 type of affair, but Mexico will certainly try and make them work for it.
Lionel Messi is always good value to score first being the penalty taker too, there is highly likely going to be a penalty in this game at some point.
