Whether it’s online roulette games or horse racing betting, most of us love a flutter. That’s especially true when it comes to football, with a vast array of markets to choose from. Bet on corners, place your money on both teams to score, or just back the team you fancy head-to-head.
But let’s face it. When you bet on a single match, things can go in any direction. A one-off injury, a red card or just a bad ref can ruin your team’s chances of winning. Despite making a smart choice before kick-off, you find yourself on the losing side.
Instead, why not bet on the whole season? These bets remove the agony and injustice of a last-minute equaliser, keep your bet alive for much longer and generally have better odds. With our outsider tips, you could just find yourself on the winning side next May. So, where’s the best place to start?
Premier League – Watford for Relegation
With all the Mike Ashley’s ownership troubles, Newcastle have been clear favourites for the drop since the start of the season. They’re joined by the three Premier League new boys, Sheffield United, Norwich, and Aston Villa. However, these things don’t always pan out as expected. While Newcastle have started poorly, as expected, the same can’t be said for the Blades and the Canaries.
On the flip side, Southampton and Watford are without a win in their opening two fixtures. Both sides are available at 3 or 4/1 for relegation. Out of the two, Watford look more likely to struggle. They failed to score in their first two matches – hammered 3-0 by Brighton before being beaten 1-0 by a less-than-impressive Everton side.
Despite breaking their record transfer fee to sign Ismaila Sarr from Rennes, they’ve failed to significantly strengthen a back line which mustered just seven clean sheets last season. For context, only relegated Huddersfield and Fulham managed fewer. An ageing Craig Dawson joined from West Brom, who themselves conceded the joint-highest goal tally in the top half of the Championship. In short, it doesn’t look great for the Hornets this season…
Championship – Charlton for Top 6
Charlton have had a barnstorming start to the season. An opening day win at Blackburn was followed by a home victory over Stoke before the Addicks fought back to earn a point at Barnsley. Despite this strong start, they’re still among the favourites for relegation from the Championship. Who’s to say they can’t keep it up?
After finishing joint second top-scorer in Charlton’s League One promotion campaign, Lyle Taylor has been quick off the mark with three goals in his first three league games. That’s combined with the arrival of Conor Gallagher on loan from Chelsea, who has already added two goals to his account for the season. Add Jonny Williams to the mix, who re-signed for Charlton following his release in May, plus Tomer Hemed from Brighton, and you can see the varied attacking threat that Charlton poses. At around 7/1 for a top-six finish, they’re certainly a decent outsider.
Outsider Football Tips For The Champions League – Bayern Munich to Win
Bayern Munich were a force to be reckoned with in the early 2010s. They made the 2010 and 2012 finals of the Champions League before finally lifting the trophy in 2013. That was largely down to the excellence of Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben – known as ‘Robbery’.
Since then, however, they’ve failed to wow us with the same attacking threat. The lethal duo left the club in 2019, now both in their mid-30s. But could this mark a new era for the German Champions?
The arrival of Philippe Coutinho and Ivan Perisic could give them a new lease of life going forward alongside the familiar faces of Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller and Kingsley Coman. That’s bolstered by the arrival of Lucas Hernandez, who looks likely to shore things up at the back. With odds upwards of 10/1, they’re one of the best Champions League punts outside the Spanish and English favourites.
