The racecourse at Cheltenham played host to a prestigious horse racing event in March 2022.
In the first of two days, there was an emphasis on the National Hunt races for horses aged five years and older. On day 2, it was all about the flat racing events for four-year-old and over horses. The first day of the event saw some very close finishes, with just a neck separating the first and second place horses in several races. In the end, it was jockey Robbie Power who had the most successful day, winning three out of four races.
His wins included the feature race of the day, The Gold Cup, on the horse Al Boum Photo. The second day of the event was just as exciting, with several close finishes again. Jockey Frankie Dettori had a very successful day, winning three out of five races. His wins included The Derby, which is one of the most prestigious flat racing events in the world.

Rachael Blackmore’s first Gold Cup win

Willie Mullins and Vauban’s record
A spectacular five-time winner took home his ninth trainers’ title. He went home with a record 10 winners over the week, bringing his career festival tally to 88. At this rate, he’ll be a sure thing for 100 in 2024.
The Triumph Hurdle turned out to be very much as the betting market predicted, with Mullins’ favorite Vauban showing a little too classy for Elliott’s top Fil Dor and Pied Piper.
Robbie Power’s treble
Robbie Power had a great day at the Cheltenham Festival, winning three races. He started the day off with a win in the Novices’ Chase on Envoi Allen, before going on to take the Gold Cup on Al Boum Photo. He rounded off his treble with a victory in the bumper on Easywork.
It was a great day for Power, and he will no doubt be delighted with his achievements. He has been one of the leading jockeys at the Cheltenham Festival for many years now, and he shows no signs of slowing down.
