Knockout Bets to End the Year in Boxing

Knockout Bets to End the Year in Boxing

Boxing fans are set for a treat to end 2020 as the schedule to conclude the year is mouth-watering, with a number of top-class fights to look forward to.

We’ve looked through those bouts and come up with some knockout bets which will hopefully leave the bookmakers out for the count.

Povetkin To Beat Whyte

Former WBA heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin caused an upset earlier this year in London when he knocked out Dillian Whyte in the fifth round. Those who know how dangerous Povetkin is will not be surprised by the result, however, Whyte was the heavy odds-on favourite to prevail. It can often be a good betting system to back the winner of the first fight in the rematch even if they weren’t convincing.

The two heavyweights are set to do it all over again in November and surprisingly Povetkin, as of the 7th October, is as big as 15/8 in the betting for the contest. Those odds are very generous as there is no reason to expect a different result this time around.

Povetkin’s record is very impressive, since turning professional in 2005 his results read 36-2-1. Those two losses came against Wladimir Klitschko and Anthony Joshua, two of the very best the division has seen this century.

The Russian is now the WBC interim champion but he will be hoping for more titles in the division before he retires. A second win over Whyte should put him in contention for a shot against Joshua or Tyson Fury. The 41-year-old may not get the early stoppage this time but he is very capable of outboxing his opponent over 12 rounds if they are required.

Garcia To Beat Spence Jr

Two of the best welterweights in the world are set to square off in November when Errol Spence Jr defends his WBC and IBF belts in the division against Danny “Swift” Garcia. The challenger looks excellent value in the betting as of the 7th October he is 12/5 to win this contest.

This is Spence Jr’s return to the ring after he was involved in a very serious car crash in 2019. Thankfully the American has made a full recovery from that incident, however, it has had a big impact on his boxing career.

Garcia is a two-weight champion and is back to his best after wins over Adrian Granados and Ivan Redkach respectively. The latter came via a unanimous decision following 12 rounds at the Barclays Centre in New York.

Swift has beaten some big names in the welterweight division. His record includes victories over Amir Khan, Lucas Matthysse, Lamon Peterson and Robert Guerrero. He is now 36-2 since his debut in 2007. If Errol Jr is below-par in this fight, Garcia is good enough to take advantage.

Joyce To Beat Dubois

Unbeaten heavyweights Daniel Dubois and Joe Joyce are scheduled to meet on the 28th November in what has the makings of one of the fights of the year.

Whoever wins this contest will be a step closer to a world title shot. Although they are both in the early stages of their professional careers, Joyce is the more experienced of the two as he had a lot of success as an amateur.

Dubois is not nicknamed ‘dynamite’ for nothing. He is a world champion in the making according to many successful tipsters in boxing. Joyce is very smart too though, and if he can keep the 23-year-old at a distance in this fight, he has an excellent chance of recording the win.

Joyce brought his record up to 11-0 back in July with a third round TKO success over German Michael Wallisch. This was his first appearance in 2020 and comes on the back of impressive wins against Bermane Stiverne, Alexander Ustinov and Bryant Jennings.

As of the 7th of October, the 2015 European Gold Medallist is the 16/5 underdog in the betting for this domestic contest. He looks to have been underestimated by the bookmakers for this fight. Dubois is rightfully the favourite but the two men should be a lot closer in the market.

Best Bets for End Of 2020

15/8 Povetkin to beat Whyte (21/11/20)

12/5 Garcia to beat Spence Jr (22/11/20)

16/5 Joyce to beat Dubois (28/11/20)

All three picks are good value for their fights as they appear to be underestimated, so it wouldn’t be a surprise if they are able to spring the upset on their more esteemed rivals. Either way, there are a number of exciting fights to finish the year that are sure to have major ramifications in the world of boxing.
