Comparing Faugheen To Champion Hurdlers

When comparing Faugheen to Champion Hurdlers you have to consider its current competition.

The current star hurdler in training is without a doubt Buveur D’Air. The Nicky Henderson trained horse has had a strange course to the top that started with a third-place finish to Altior in the Supreme Novice back in 2016. Following this season he was sent chasing and although winning on both stars was far from impressive beating the likes of Gino Trail by 2 and ¼ lengths. Connections then reverted the horseback over hurdlers and he won the contenders hurdle at Sandown without coming off the bridle to set himself up for the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham.

That proved to be a fantastic decision as he stormed clear to win by 4 and a half lengths to stablemate My Tent Or Yours. Buveur D’Air has now reached a RPR high of 171 and will be expected to take all the beating again come March. You can now bet on Cheltenham Festival with Buveur D’Air as the current odds on favourite.

The main challenge to the reigning champion is still likely to come from Faugheen as he looks to get back to the form of several years ago and on his reappearance. Check this infographic out to see how Faugheen compares to the greatest Champion hurdlers throughout history.
