Better Call Saul

“‘Better Call Saul tells the story of mall-based super lawyer Saul Goodman in the years before he became Walter White’s attorney. From parking tickets to mass murder, from slip-and-fall to bond fraud, Saul handles it all. “

―Press release

Better Call Saul is a television series spin-off from Breaking Bad. The first season of Better Call Saul premiered on February 8, 2015.

In April 2013, it was announced that a spin-off series focusing on Saul Goodman was being developed by Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan and writer Peter Gould; the latter wrote the episode that introduced the character.

Gilligan had considered it in a July 2012 interview: “I like the idea of a lawyer show in which the main lawyer will do anything it takes to stay out of a court of law.

He’ll settle on the courthouse steps, whatever it takes to stay out of the courtroom. That would be fun—I would like that.” Set 6 years before Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul follows Jimmy McGill in his transition from small-time lawyer to con-man, Saul Goodman.

The bingo game becomes a pivotal point in his life, spurring him to change from a failing lawyer to the Saul of Breaking Bad that we all know and love. When Jimmy kept getting the same balls from the machine, it was to show us that no matter how many times he tries, the same shit keeps happening to him and he can never win, just like a game of Bingo.

Hotel Transylvania

“Hotel Transylvania is a feel-good family flick that succeeds in keeping the kids entertained.”

-Times of India

The film tells a story of Count Dracula, the owner of a hotel called Hotel Transylvania where the world’s monsters can take a rest from human civilization.

The premise is not without promise. As the monsters see it, we’re the villains. From their perspective, they have been persecuted and hunted to extinction by men.

Count Dracula, after losing his wife in a human attack on his castle, has fled to Transylvania with his young daughter, Mavis. There, he builds Hotel Transylvania, a high-end retreat for monsters only, where they can take a vacation without fear of being hounded by men.

Hotel Transylvania confronts the concept of fearing those who are different. Humans are afraid of monsters, and the monsters are afraid of humans. They base their fears on assumptions made about each other. Huge props to the creators of this animated flick who found a brand new way to take those Popular bingo games and approach them from a whimsical, childlike perspective.

The bingo balls used in the movie were not balls at all, but skulls that hissed out their numbering to the bingo caller. A very lucky player is super excited to see that they have finally gotten Bingo… but unfortunately, a monstrous and ravenously hungry old lady woofs down the card before they can cash in on their good luck.

Rampage

Brendan Fletcher plays Bill, your regular ol’ average Joe whose parents think it’s time he moved out, he doesn’t get on with his boss, he’s got a rambling political realist for a best friend, who likes preaching online about the problems of the world, and he seems to bump into contagiously grumpy people at every turn; his life doesn’t seem to be going anywhere.

His answer to all of life’s stresses is simple: Kill everyone. He makes a suit of armor, puts on a paintball mask, gets a whole lot of ammo for two semi-automatic weapons, and decides to go to town. Rampage features a hair-raising scene in which the killer wanders through a hall filled with bingo players who have their eyes down concentrating on the game and don’t even notice that he is there.

The scene, although frightening, is a great representation of bingo and how it can be a captivating and interesting game to use to pass the time, allowing you to forget what’s going on around you!
