08/06/2023 – 14:20 Ffos Las – River of Joy – 3.75 – 1 points win
In this race the odds for River of Joy are too high. River of Joy has a decent record over bumpers finishing a decent 6th over bumpers in April 2023 with multiple winners coming out of that. Then finishing 5th in a Cartmel hurdle just over a week ago, there was a strong pace set by Come on Du Barlais who is most likely a much better rated horse then River of Joy and would have struggled to finish nearer. It’s likely we will see an improvement. The odds of River of Joy in my opinion are being inflated by Designer Destiny being a similar price at around 7/2. The mare has been off for 2 years before running at Warwick in May, on the day she drifted a lot and her run was well below the 100 rated mark where she is currently rated 104. Absolute Ruler may be too good however has to give 5 lbs to River of Joy who could quite easily be an improver and is a bumper winner.

I caught the bug of horse racing many years ago when watching jumps racing caught my eye. Ever since I’ve been trying to work out as many angles that I can use on both jumps and flat racing. I still remember my first bet inside a betting shop was on Thistlecrack to win the 2016 King George where he was able to do the business. I’ve been to a number of meetings at Kempton from the Christmas meetings to the AW flat being close to the course.
I am now in a position where I can put a significant amount of time into racing which allows me to watch the races live and get a feel for how the markets react in real time. The bread & butter of this service will be backing Novice & Maiden hurdles during the week.
It’s these types of races that have the most value in my opinion as the majority of horses only have a couple of runs and if you can get a grasp of their rough ability then the success should come from that. In these races you get the biggest disparity of ability whereas in Handicap hurdles generally they are of closer ability. Of course there will still be tips for Graded races over jumps & flats where appropriate.
When betting in Novice type races the best tool to your disposal is your eyes, when you don’t have much to go on looking at previous hurdle runs where on form it may have disappointed may tell you otherwise. Perhaps the winner got a run on the field and the jockey stopped riding or it ran on particularly well when being put at the back. These types of scenarios are useful to use when trying to find value on a particular day.

100 points is the recommended start for your betting bank. If you use £5 per point – £500 betting bank, £10 per point – £1,000 betting bank and so on.
Once your betting bank increases by 50 points you increase your bet by 50%. £5 becomes £7.50, £10 becomes £15 and so on.
