Despite being an avid follower of all things rugby league, horse racing has always been my main sport of interest. My first memories of horse racing came from visiting many of the northern racecourses as a youngster with my family. Whether it was catching a fixture on the Westwood at Beverley, or a meeting over the sticks at Market Rasen, we never failed to have a good time on course. I would often circle my selections and scribble my ‘best bet’ of the meeting on a copy of my dad’s Racing Post before the first race would commence – a pre-race routine that I still take part in to this day I may add!

During the past six years, I’ve been fortunate enough to transfer my passion for the sport into a career. After spending three of those years working for a highly reputable company as a Racing Operator and Betting Specialist, I became a Racing Content Editor for a couple of well established horse racing sites.

Every punter has their own specific method when it comes to finding that all important winner and I’m certainly no different! If you’re looking to come out on top in the long run then finding the early value is key. The vast majority of my selections are provided at double figure odds the night before the race, and I very rarely provide tips at single figure prices. In order to establish value, you have to find the right horse in the ideal race.

With plenty of meetings to delve into on a daily basis, it can sometimes be overwhelming for a punter when looking through each individual contest. Alongside studying the form and analysing race replays, I like to narrow down the field sizes by using my own notebook and tracker which I update daily. This provides me with a select number of horses to follow going forward, including, well treated winners, handicap droppers, and eye catchers in defeat. With this structured and much more detailed approach to punting, it’s extremely rewarding when the hard work pays off and you unearth a future winner or two!
